GALKAYO (SD) -The police force in the Mudug region carried out an operation in the city of Galkayo last night related to combating piracy. It apprehended the leader of a pirate gang involved in a $5 million ransom from the Bangladeshi ship MV ABDALLA.

The operation, conducted in the Siinaay neighborhood of Galkayo, resulted in the capture of 38-year-old Abshir Abdi Kheyre Jowfe, also known as Ina Mayran Hassan, who was the commander of the MV Abdalla ship and had taken over $400,000 in ransom.

The Police Commander of Mudug, Senior Colonel Mohamoud Abdulhakim Yusuf, provided a report on the successful operation and warned anyone involved in piracy activities, emphasizing that they would be apprehended. He also underlined that all individuals involved in piracy would be brought to justice.

The Puntland administration is engaged in a fierce battle against pirate groups, which pose a significant threat to the region.
