LONDON (SD)-Amnesty International today released its annual report, listing the countries with the highest number of executions carried out in 2023.

The report highlighted that a total of 1,153 executions were carried out globally, with reportedly additional thousands believed to have been executed in China.

The report identified the five countries with the highest number of executions in 2023, which are China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, and the United States.

In Iran, at least 835 people were executed. Saudi Arabia carried out 172 executions. Somalia executed at least 38 people, while the United States carried out 24 executions. These figures are detailed in Amnesty International’s annual report on executions for the year 2023.
